Born to be wild!

One of the wonderfully serendipitous events that has happened of late is meeting up with Chris and the gang at Dry Goods – a brilliant Toronto based company that makes deliciously funny and amazing soft cotton t-shirts for kids. The shirts are designed, sewn and screened right here in the T-dot using environmentally friendly practices. They are like our very own version of American Apparel – but for KIDS!!!

I had a second shoot yesterday for Dry Goods and want to send a big thanks out to my wonderful little models Kyle, Keira & Amelia for braving the rain… yes – it rained again! But we made the most of it and turned the shoot into an umbrella party. Look out for Dry Goods tees at all the coolest kids shoppes in the GTA.

If you think I\'m cute, you should see my Aunt!

I love Dry Goods!

Greetings Springlings!

I’m busy, busy, busy making the most of the amazing spring weather with lots of family portrait sessions taking place in the next little while. This truly is my favorite time of year as the colors and light just can’t be beat! Lots is happening here at the studio including:

1. An upcoming FREE photography workshop for parents at Inspired Life Health Centre in Carrot Common on the Danforth.

2. Photo shoots for Dry Goods, a totally radical kids t-shirt company based out of Toronto. In addition to being really cool looking – the shirts are made of organic cotton with designs created using soy based biodegradable dyes. The shirts are available at kid’s boutiques all over Toronto, or online at www.thatsdry.com

3. The first wedding of the season at the Enoch Turner School House this coming Sunday – we are excited to be a part of Tim & Anna’s big day!

4. A very exciting project with The Compassionate Eye Foundation… which I won’t say anymore about until the details are set. It is VERY COOL though!

Plus lots and lots and lots of outdoor portraits in the coming weeks. We are now booking sessions for the middle of June so if you are thinking of having a children’s portraits or a family portrait this spring don’t wait too long to book – we are filling up fast!

Here are some shots from the first Dry Goods shoot… Amaro has a future in modeling for certain!

Well today is the day! I have just returned from Madeleine’s Cherry Pie & Ice Cream Shoppe where Kyla Eaglesham, the lovely proprietor extraordinaire selected the winning Mother for our BEST MOM contest. As you may know by now, we received 36 incredible entries about some truly amazing Mothers. I hope each and every one of you is out celebrating them today. So… without further adieu… drum roll please…

Kyle reaches into the box of names...

In the midst of preparing for their AMAZING Mother’s Day High Tea Brunch, Kyla took a moment to help pick the winning Mom.

we have a winner...

And the winner is…

Winning entry

Congratulations Jeremy Worden! Your entry has won your Mom Susan our $1200 Mother’s Day Portrait Prize Package.

Here’s what Jeremy said about his mom, Susan:

My mom is not an object that does work and chores, she means a lot more than that. She is a caring, hard-working person who deserves more thanks than she gets. She does so much hard work around the house. Presently, she is away at a hockey tournament, the result…CHAOS! We probably wouldn’t survive if she were to leave for more than a week. I think that my mom really deserves the prize because she cares about every little thing. From my education to if I brushed my teeth last night.

My mom hardly ever does anything for herself or gets anything extra. She always cooks dinner but by the time she is done organizing playdates or soccer practice we have finished our dinner and hers is cold. I think it would be an amazing surprise for her to come home from work and find 1200 dollars worth of prizes in the front hall. It would be the best mother’s day present ever.

Susan has won:

Family portrait session at Tynan Studio with a framed family portrait.

Hair & Makeup for the photo shoot by Suzanne Cyr of Prettiface.

$200 Gift certificate to Evymama – Toronto’s chic destination for nursing and maternity wear.

A bouquet of fresh spring flowers from the new flower market at Pusateri’s.

Brunch for Two at the very delicious Madeleines Cherry Pie & Ice Cream.

For all the other wonderful entries, those of you interested in participating in my “All About My Mother” portrait series, please email me if you haven’t already and we will start setting dates for the portraits for the coming year. For all who have emailed me back already – thank you! I’m very excited to work with you and will get in touch with you shortly.

Have a WONDERFUL MOTHER’S DAY….

Spring Flowers for Mother\'s Day

and make sure you take a moment to enjoy all the beauty that surrounds us at this time of the year.

…Sometimes in life things don’t exactly work out the way you plan them, and this “Best Mom” contest is a perfect example. After handing out postcards all over Toronto I expected to get lots of entries, with a select group of really strong stories. What I got was 36 AMAZING, thoughtful love filled letters about some really incredible women.

These women:

-Single-handedly raised children into healthy, happy, successful adults.
-Left abusive relationships to protect themselves and their children.
-Are involved in their communities by giving their time and talents to charity work.
-Raised or are raising children and caring for husbands with illness and physical disabilities.
-Generous with their love and money, even when there is not always a lot of the latter to go around.
-Best friends to their children and partners, providing a safe haven from life’s struggles.
-Funny and adventurous taking risks to follow their dreams.
-Entrepreneurs who run their own businesses and still find ways to make their families a priority.
-Are survivors of cancer and heart attacks and other illnesses.
-Range in age from women who became mother’s at 19 to women who are grandmothers of 82.
-Are environmental stewards for their communities.
-Made enormous sacrifices to allow their partners and children to follow their dreams.
-Give of themselves unconditionally.
-Love unconditionally.

How could I possibly narrow it down to FOUR? What I have realized though is that this contest was a wonderful opportunity for daughters, sons, husbands and friends to reflect on what makes the mothers in their lives so special.

So here’s where it gets interesting…

Rather than narrow it down, we are going to randomly pick the grand prize winner and contact her on Mother’s Day this coming Sunday. For everyone else who entered a mother, I have decided to start a photography portrait project about Mothers. Each of the 36 entrants have been contacted and I am offering all of them a portrait with the mother that they entered. The portrait sessions will take place over the coming year and will culminate in a photo exhibit for Mother’s Day 2009. There were a couple of entrants who did not provide an email address to contact you by. If you are one of these people, please email me at info@tynanstudio.com if you are interested in participating.

Stay tuned… we will announce the grand prize portrait package winner tomorrow!

A huge thanks to EvyMama, Madeleine’s Cherry Pie & Ice Cream, Prettiface Hair & Makeup, and the flower market at Pusateri’s for all the amazing items that make up our fabulous prize package worth over $1200!
