It’s that time again! Oh-Eight, Oh-Eight is upon us and the Olympic fever is here!

In my past life, prior to pursuing photography, I spent several years training and competing at an international level in Olympic distance triathlon. In a pivotal move I sold my racing bike to buy my first camera, and I haven’t looked back. But… once in awhile I do enjoy checking in on my old training mates to see how their sporting careers are progressing and last night was pretty exciting. A fellow dog fanatic and all round awesome chick, Lauren Groves, was on the start line last night for triathlon. Normally my bedtime is between 9 and 10 pm, but last night I made a huge exception and stayed up until past midnight so that I could watch the entire women’s triathlon from start to finish. In a devastating accident one of the lead rider’s in Lauren’s bike pack went down, taking four riders behind her down with her. Lauren was one of these riders and sustained a broken elbow in the fall. I am devastated for her and can’t believe that after all the years of training such an unlucky circumstance could take her out of the race! She is a phenomenal athlete, and a VERY funny chick to boot and I am so proud to know her and look forward to cheering her on in the future.

Here are some shots of Lauren racing (these are not my photos.. but they give you an idea of what a machine this chick is!)

Tonights events include the men’s triathlon and my old training buddy Colin Jenkins will be on the start line alongside Simon Whitfield and Paul Tichealar. Very excited to see how the Canadian men fair and to cheer Colin on in his Olympic debut.

Go CANADA!!

Here is a shot of Colin in the run at recent race (also not my photo).
